Sage Gallery: MONARCHS & MCHENRY COUNTY

Creative Arts Inc. Student/Instructor Art Show

Creative Arts nonprofit art studio students and instructors created art inspired by nature to help raise awareness of how our community can help support Illinois natural habitat.

Students learned about monarch butterflies and pollinators, in partnership with Friends of Hackmatack, and displayed art at the Monarch Family Fun Fair in August at Crystal Lake Main Beach. Through their art, they hope people will learn that everybody’s backyard plays a part to create safe places for monarchs, to help their annual migration.  Without milkweed plants and other pollinator plants, monarchs cannot survive.  When people plant milkweed and native plants in their backyards, those spaces become part of critical linkages that allow monarchs to travel north to Canada, then return south to Mexico in their migration.
